When the plan isn’t the plan
There are things in life that are carefully planned—and others that clearly are not.
Sometimes, you set a goal, map out the steps, establish a timeline, assess the risks, and manage your time accordingly. You measure your success as you go. Why? Because it’s your plan. It’s intentional, structured, and within your control.
But other times, change crashes in—unexpected, unplanned, and maybe even unwanted. There’s no clear goal because it wasn’t your goal to begin with. You don’t know the steps, the tasks, or the timeline. All you know is that something needs to shift, and you have to move forward. But how?
Experts often say: “Take it one step at a time. Break things into smaller, manageable pieces.” And I agree. Whether you're following a personal plan or navigating the unexpected, that approach helps. But sometimes, things come at you like a whirlwind—fast, chaotic, and disorienting. It feels less like strategy and more like survival.
In those moments, I’ve learned to stop repeating the phrases I used to lean on:
“I didn’t see this coming.”
“I never expected this.”
“I don’t know what I’m going to do.”
It’s not that I never say them anymore. I said them plenty in my younger years. But now, I don’t stay there. I’ve come to understand that even when the shift wasn’t my choice, it still has to be made. The direction has changed, and I have to chart a new course.
That path might be messy. It may feel uncertain. And that’s okay.
Within that disruption lies transformation—growth I didn’t plan for but needed nonetheless.
Focusing on the unraveling of my well-crafted plans doesn’t serve me. What matters now is recognizing that a new path is unfolding before me. And I have the power to walk it.
June has been that kind of month for me. A month of shifts, deep work, and revelations.
The journey isn't over. The transformation is still in progress.
And guess what?
That’s okay.
Embrace your vibrant transformation.
